Ok, last GIF (for now. you guys are probably getting sick of seeing these lol).
This is most of my process for my imprisoned Loki painting. I usually start with a sketch, convert it to black and white, then overlay color using a couple overlay layers (i’m bad at starting with color). I try to do a complete underpainting so my overpainting is less work but I totally didn’t do it here. After creating all these GIFs, I’ve become aware of how incredibly inefficient my drawing process is. Make sure your sketch is 90% (or even more) your final product in terms of pose, lighting, etc… or else you’ll waste a ton of time, get stuck, and trash it after you realize not everything is working (as I do). Some artists are the types that can just block in shapes and turn it into a masterpiece but I’m not one of those people. Always make sure to think your sketch through so you don’t waste so much time like me! haha :|
I’m not a professional by any means and these are just tips that I’ve realized work for me so you might have a different (and better way) of doing things. If you have any tips, feel free to tell me :P
Here’s another set of progress GIFs showing some steps of my prior Thor/Loki post. I had this 18 frame progress set for Thor but it was way too large for Tumblr to animate so I had to cut it down to 10 frames. I flattened a lot of Loki so most of his steps were lost.
Yeah…I draw a lot of Thor and Loki (mainly the latter…) but I’ll start to deviate and draw other stuff too lol. I’ve been told a lot of times to draw what I love but maybe I’ve been taking it too literally haha.
Tonight I learned how to GIF! So…I made a progress GIF of my comic con Loki portrait. Not the best progress shots but I’ll try to make better ones in the future. The last 2 frames are questionable because I intended to make this for print which is why the colors are a bit bright in the last frame. The 2nd to last frame is decent for web viewing but didn’t print out well at all lol. The joys of CMYK heh.
I don’t usually start off in color but I apparently did for this drawing….or maybe I just didn’t save the B/W parts. I don’t remember lol
